The annual GSA meeting brings the international geoscience community to Denver on 11–14 October 2026. Programme themes cover continental drift and Earth dynamics, changing riverscapes and hazards, and exploration from the deep Earth to space. Registration remains open, with standard rates through 2 October and late rates from 3 October. Abstract submission, early registration and student travel-grant deadlines have passed. A four-year funded doctoral project in the Engineering Geology group investigates debris-flow motion and natural-hazard risk. Analyse point clouds and camera measurements to estimate flow velocity and depth, carry out fieldwork at five sites, and develop methods for understanding sediment movement. The position is expected to start in January 2027. Applications are open until 1 October 2026 through the employer’s online portal; submit a motivation letter, CV, transcripts and two reference contacts.

The Petroleum Research Fund offers USD 110,000 over two years for fundamental research relevant to the petroleum field by new investigators. At least 60% of the budget supports student education and training. The current submission round closes at 5 pm US Eastern time on 9 October 2026 for consideration in May 2027; the next spring window is separate. Applied research is outside this programme’s scope.

This AGU26 award supports early- and mid-career geoscience faculty at under-resourced institutions who need financial help to attend the annual conference in San Francisco. Awards provide up to USD 1,700 for travel, together with professional development and networking opportunities. Recipients are expected to review student presentations and participate in programme evaluation. Eligible applicants are primarily employed at a US two-year college or four-year undergraduate institution, or an under-resourced international institution, and must comply with AGU conduct and conflict-of-interest policies.
