About

Flexible support of up to USD 25,000 for postdoctoral autism researchers affected by lost, reduced or suspended funding. Basic and clinical autism research is eligible, including neurobiology, genetics, immunology, model systems, behaviour and service research, with priority for profound autism. Awards cover specific research and career-development expenses, including supplies, data access, participant costs and limited travel or training. They do not replace the fellow’s salary or stipend. Applications and a separate recommender letter are due 15 October 2026 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Awards are announced in March 2027 and must start between June and September 2027. The official RFA instructs applicants and recommenders to submit their PDFs by email.

Career stage: Postdoc

Apply with a supervisor or host

Covers: Up to USD 25,000 paid to the host institution for direct research/career-development costs. No fellow salary/stipend, general living costs, non-portable equipment or indirect costs. Canadian research sites receive payment in Canadian dollars; other sites receive US dollars. Conference/training and childcare caps are specified in the RFA.

Host location: Worldwide

Researchers and host institutions inside or outside the United States are eligible.

Nationality or residence: US citizenship is not required.

Current postdoctoral fellows at accredited colleges/universities, or fellows in postdoctoral appointments when funding begins, worldwide and without a US-citizenship requirement. Research must be linked to autism. A tenured/tenure-track or equivalent active autism-research mentor is required and may be named on only one SOS application. One recommendation from someone other than the mentor is required.
