About

Rolling support for collaborative natural-sciences and engineering research driven by a societal challenge. Projects combine academic expertise, partner participation and affected communities’ perspectives, explaining how people will use the resulting knowledge, technologies, services or policies. Applications use NSERC’s online system and are assessed for public impact and research merit. Partner cash is not mandatory, but active involvement and in-kind contributions are required. Only costs incurred after award approval can be supported.

Covers: CAD 20,000–500,000 per year for 1–5 years; NSERC can cover 100% of eligible direct research costs.

Host location: Canada

Lead applicant must be based at an eligible Canadian university.
