About
Funds basic biological research across life science through a three-year mentored postdoctoral fellowship. Selection as a finalist does not guarantee sponsorship. Applications close October 1, 2026 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time; three references and the supervisor letter are due November 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Awards activate only on August 1, 2027.

Covers: USD 255,000 over three years: USD 79,000 annual salary plus USD 6,000 annual research allowance. No institutional overhead; the host is expected to cover its health/fringe costs. The allowance cannot pay visa costs. Commercial patent/IP agreements are restricted; standard reagent MTAs are exempt.
Host location: Worldwide
US citizens may train worldwide; non-US citizens must train in a US laboratory at an eligible nonprofit university or research institution.
Nationality or residence: Open to US and non-US citizens, with different permitted host destinations.

Apply within five years of the latest PhD, MD or DVM (degree on or after October 1, 2021); candidates may apply before completion but need the degree by August 1, 2027. Start the proposed lab between August 1, 2025 and July 31, 2027. A different thesis/postdoc lab and supervisor acceptance are required. HHMI Investigator laboratories are ineligible this cycle. Only one concurrent LSRF awardee per laboratory, including co-mentor laboratories. No concurrent postdoctoral fellowship; valid work authorization must cover the award.
