Applied research internships connect Canadian postsecondary researchers, academic supervisors and non-academic partners. Four- or six-month units can scale into longer collaborations. An advisor directs applicants to the appropriate application platform.

Eligibility

Career stage: Undergraduate · Master’s · PhD · Postdoc

Apply with a supervisor or host

Covers: Standard unit CAD 15,000 with minimum CAD 10,000 intern stipend and CAD 7,500 partner contribution. Postdoc unit CAD 20,000 with minimum CAD 15,000 stipend and CAD 10,000 partner contribution; units last four or six months.

Host location: Canada

Eligible Canadian academic institution plus a Mitacs-eligible non-academic partner.

Nationality or residence: Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students may participate subject to institutional eligibility.

Registered students and postdocs at eligible Canadian institutions, recent graduates within two years where their institution permits, and some visiting students. Postdocs normally start within five years of PhD and cannot have worked full-time for the partner beforehand. An academic supervisor and eligible non-academic partner with cash contribution are required.
