Ultra Long Duration Energy Storage Project Development Studies Relaunch
Description
Support project-development studies for electrochemical ultra-long-duration energy storage in the UK. Proposals should assess technology and engineering design, costs, markets, manufacture, supply chains and a development plan for systems supplying grid power for at least 100 continuous hours with a working life of at least 25 years. Phase 1 requests must be £350,000–£700,000 for projects lasting three to nine months, starting by 1 January 2027 and ending by 30 September 2027. The competition is open and closes on 30 September 2026 at 11:00 UK time. The £3 million headline figure is the total competition budget, not an individual award.
Eligibility
A UK-registered business of any size must lead or apply alone. UK businesses, academic institutions, RTOs, charities, nonprofits and public-sector organisations may join a consortium. Academic institutions cannot lead or apply alone; funded work and exploitation must be in the UK.
