About

The Department of Technical Physics at the University of Eastern Finland (Kuopio Campus) recruits a doctoral researcher in finite element technology for smooth problems, supervised by Assistant Professor Adam Sky together with Dr. Michael Neunteufel of the Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM) in Linz, Austria. The project develops, mathematically analyses and numerically implements advanced finite element methods for complex continuum and multiphysics problems, combining methodological development with applications to challenging problems in computational engineering, and includes publication, conferences and research visits with the collaborating partners.

Teaching-related duties are at most 5% of working time. The fixed-term three-year position starts on 1 January 2027 or as agreed, with salary on the Finnish universities' scale (demand levels 2–4 plus a personal component). Applications are due by 16 November 2026.

Requirements

Eligibility for doctoral studies: a Master's degree in computational physics and engineering, mathematics, scientific computing, mechanical engineering or a related field; students in the final stages of their Master's may apply if they deliver the degree certificate by 30 November 2026.
