About

Eurac Research's Institute for Alpine Environment assesses biodiversity, ecosystem functions and ecosystem services in mountain areas and has coordinated the long-term Biodiversity Monitoring South Tyrol programme since 2019, surveying plant and animal taxa across 440 sites. This science-policy role splits time between the Horizon Europe project BEAGLE (GA 101288886) and Alp-BiodivActionPlan, a call for tender from Germany's Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) supporting the German Presidency of the Alpine Convention.

BEAGLE develops and tests automated sensors, environmental DNA and participatory science to generate FAIR biodiversity data; the researcher will support Work Package 9 in integrating these methods and data products into long-term European monitoring strategies through stakeholder mapping, surveys and interviews. In Alp-BiodivActionPlan the researcher will map and engage stakeholders across the Alpine region, collect information on ecosystem-restoration initiatives through questionnaires and interviews, and support workshops and dissemination.

The fixed-term contract in Bolzano runs for 24 months, extendable to 36, from January 2027, at a gross annual salary of 37,480.80 to 45,256.97 euros.

Requirements

Degree and research experience relevant to biodiversity monitoring and ecosystem restoration at the science-policy interface; familiarity with European biodiversity and environmental policy frameworks for monitoring and nature restoration; good communication and interpersonal skills for international, interdisciplinary stakeholder work; fluent English, with good German preferred and Italian, French or Slovenian an asset; willingness to travel three to four times a year. Applications include a CV, motivation letter and two reference letters.
