About
The Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, an internationally leading institute for pure mathematics hosting about 700 guest scientists a year, invites outstanding mathematicians to apply for a Max Planck Research Group Leader position. The group is limited to six years, with a possible individual extension by three years after a positive scientific evaluation, and is remunerated at W 2 of the Federal Civil Service Remuneration Act. The institute cooperates closely with the University of Bonn and is part of the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics; teaching and advising are possible and strongly encouraged.
Applications, including the names of possible referees, are submitted online by 15 November 2026; the institute asks that research statements be written without the use of AI.
Requirements
PhD and several years of postdoctoral research experience in pure mathematics; names of possible referees with the online application.
