About

Doctoral position in the EDGE group at the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS), University of Vienna, within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network AGRIPOLYS (project DC6). Polymers serve many agricultural applications, and soil biodegradability is key to preventing their accumulation in soils and other environmental systems. Rooted in environmental analytical chemistry centred on high-resolution mass spectrometry, the project studies the activity and specificity of soil enzymes that degrade polymers, to inform the development of soil-biodegradable polymers.

The candidate develops analytical methods, runs experiments and signs a thesis agreement within 12–18 months in the VDS MES doctoral school. The full-time contract starts on 1 March 2027 or soon after, initially for one year with the aim of extending to three; basic salary EUR 3,776.10.

Requirements

Master's in analytical, polymer, environmental or food chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology or a closely related field; laboratory experience in these areas is a strong asset; English at C1. MSCA mobility rule: no residence or main activity (work, studies) in Austria for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the recruitment date.
