About

In the Geochemistry group of PNNL's Physical Sciences Division, the postdoctoral researcher develops and performs benchtop and hydrothermal liquid-rock reactions to study how metal ions interact with, are incorporated into and are distributed within natural and synthetic minerals, delineating dissolution, nucleation, growth and crystallisation. The work combines wet chemistry and optical spectroscopy (Raman, FTIR) with synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES/EXAFS) and complementary microscopy and elemental analysis (XRD/SAXS, DLS, SEM/TEM, AFM, ICP), and develops models to interpret hydrothermal reaction data, advancing DOE missions in critical minerals, environmental cleanup and sustainable materials.

The salary range is $69,000-$119,100 per year.

Requirements

PhD received within the past five years or within the next eight months. Preferred: a strong background in geochemistry and materials science; skills in wet chemistry, optical spectroscopy and synchrotron techniques (EXAFS, SXAS, XRF) with data fitting.
