About
The Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT) at Texas A&M University, working with the Department of Ocean Engineering, seeks a postdoctoral research associate for research on disaster resilience, coastal engineering, hydrodynamic and morphodynamic coastal processes and flood risk reduction. The associate will contribute to joint research on planned storm surge suppression systems along the U.S. Gulf Coast, focusing on beach and dune modelling or hydrodynamic field data collection and analysis.
Research and project tasks can include coastal hydrodynamic and morphodynamic numerical modelling, field measurement and analysis of nearshore dynamics, design and analysis of flood control infrastructure, nature-based flood mitigation, flood risk and hazard analytics, and flood forecasting and warning systems. The associate mentors student researchers, prepares technical progress reports for sponsors, publishes in peer-reviewed journals, presents at conferences and takes part in outreach on evidence-based disaster resilience.
The position is grant funded.
Requirements
PhD in civil, ocean or mechanical engineering or a related field with a focus on coastal systems, coastal numerical modelling, nearshore field data collection, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical challenges or similar expertise. Preferred: coastal circulation, flooding, wave and morphodynamic modelling and/or nearshore field data collection; sediment transport; topographic and bathymetric surveying and current and wave instrumentation; Python, Matlab or R; GIS; hydraulics of flood control and surge suppression structures. Cover letter and resume strongly recommended.
