Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Magnetic Recording
Materials Science, Materials Physics and Condensed Matter Physics postdoctoral research fellow (one-year renewable contract) position at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS)
About
Develop materials and new magnetic recording principles for future high-capacity, ultrafast storage. The project combines magnetic materials and thin-film experiments with process informatics, data-driven development and AI agents. Proof-of-concept studies will test new recording concepts for information and communication systems. The role is at NIMS’s Sengen site in Tsukuba, with a negotiable April 2027 start. The one-year appointment is renewable with annual evaluation, for up to five years.
Topics
- magnetic recording
- process informatics
Requirements
PhD completed by the start of employment; fluent written and spoken English. Experience in magnetic materials, thin-film processing, and magnetic/electrical transport evaluation, with the ability to run thin-film experiments independently. Data-driven materials research and electron microscopy are preferred.
