Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Micro-/Nano-Mechanical Characterisation of Metallic and Ceramic Materials

Investigate plasticity and fracture near interfaces between dissimilar phases in engineering metals and ceramics, including cryogenic and high-temperature conditions. Develop electron-microscopy strain-mapping approaches within the Mechanical Properties Group. The initial one-year appointment may be renewed up to five years. Start is 1 October 2026 or later by agreement, and recruitment continues until a qualified candidate is found.

Completed or expected PhD in materials science, mechanics or a related field. Micro- or nano-mechanical testing and focused-ion-beam SEM experience are essential; submicron strain mapping is desirable.
