The Solid Mechanics professorship seeks an experimental postdoctoral researcher to investigate how soft and architected materials deform and fracture. The role develops quantitative experiments using confocal or high-speed imaging, digital image correlation and particle tracking to measure crack-tip behaviour, strain, fracture energy and rate effects. Further work concerns contact and friction, with collaboration across modelling and theory and supervision of junior researchers.

Requirements
Doctorate in mechanics, engineering, materials science, physics or a related subject; practical mechanical testing and experimental design; quantitative imaging experience desirable; English and mentoring ability.
