About

Two-year, fully funded postdoctoral position at Reykjavik University developing supervised machine-learning and computer-vision methods for zebrafish behavioural analysis, funded through the LUMI AI Factory (EuroHPC). The project addresses a key bottleneck in behavioural neuroscience: extracting robust, biologically meaningful phenotypes from large-scale video and time-series data. It builds reproducible, generalisable pipelines for pre-processing, feature selection and classification of zebrafish behaviour that scale to GPU and high-performance computing environments and can be reused across studies and domains, supporting basic research and drug-discovery strategies.

The postdoc works with faculty in biomedical engineering and computer science and with experimental scientists, with access to LUMI-class supercomputing resources.

Requirements

A PhD in machine learning, computer science, data science, computational biology, biomedical engineering or a related field; experience applying machine learning and/or computer vision to real-world datasets, preferably biomedical; proficiency in Python ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX; a strong publication record in top-tier venues. Desirable: experience with video, behavioural or biological data, HPC, GPUs or distributed training, and interest in AI for science or computational neuroscience. Applications include a CV, a short cover letter, up to three relevant publications and contact details for two to three references.
