About

A research assistant in the Department of Engineering, based at the Institute for Biomedical Innovation, 11 JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, works on a new project developing minimally invasive implantable neural probes for brain interfacing. The project designs, evaluates and characterises advanced neural interfaces, supported by computational modelling of their electrical performance and safety. Duties include contributing to the design and evaluation of implantable neural interfaces, electrical characterisation and simulations with tools such as Sim4Life or COMSOL, analysing experimental and simulation results, collaborating with researchers on device fabrication and electrophysiology, keeping research records and contributing to reports, publications and presentations.

Funding is for 12 months or until 30 November 2027, whichever is sooner, with a salary range of £33,662-£36,320.

Requirements

An undergraduate degree in engineering, biomedical engineering, physics or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification in neural engineering, bioelectronics or a related field is desirable. Knowledge of neural interfaces, implantable bioelectronic devices or related biomedical technologies, research experience in device design, testing, electrical characterisation or electrophysiology, and familiarity with Sim4Life or COMSOL (essential). Applications include a CV, a covering letter and a publication list.
