About
The Multifunctional Neural Interfaces research unit, coordinated by Ferruccio Pisanello at IIT's Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies in Lecce, is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers for the ERC Consolidator project MINING (Multifunctional nano-bio INterfaces wIth deep braiN reGions, grant agreement 101125498). MINING develops neural endoscopes built on hybrid metal-dielectric metasurfaces that combine high-resolution functional imaging of neural signals, label-free optical monitoring of chemical compounds, and optogenetic and thermoplasmonic modulation with cellular resolution, and integrates organic electrochemical transistors to create an optoelectrical neural interface with active electronics.
The project will apply these endoscopes to reveal electrochemical functional dynamics in the living mouse brain. One position focuses on photonics and time-resolved optical measurements; the other on in vivo neuroscience in murine models. Each collaboration contract pays a gross annual salary of 30,000 to 37,000 euros.
Requirements
Position 1: PhD in photonics, physics, nanotechnologies or related disciplines; strong documented experience in optics and photonics applied to solid-state physics; time-resolved measurements with streak cameras; experience coaching junior scientists. Position 2: PhD in biology, neuroscience or equivalent; experience manipulating murine models, competencies under the Italian Ministerial Decree of 5 August 2021 (at least roles a and d, or also b and c) and stereotaxic methods. Both: strong publication record, good English, and coding skills in Python, Matlab and C++. Applications include a detailed CV, cover letter and two reference letters.
