About

Two-year postdoctoral contract in the Touch&Move team (led by Isabelle Ferezou and Valérie Ego-Stengel) at the Institut des Neurosciences Paris-Saclay (NeuroPSI). The team studies somatosensory-motor integration in the mouse and has built brain–machine interfaces that read out single-neuron activity in primary motor cortex in real time, trained mice to control a custom forelimb prosthesis, and delivered behaviourally relevant artificial somatosensory feedback through patterned optogenetic photostimulation of primary somatosensory cortex.

It has also decoded motor intentions at a mesoscopic scale from wide-field calcium imaging of the cortical surface. The project combines this mesoscopic decoding with optogenetic somatosensory feedback in a bidirectional all-optical brain–machine interface, to develop and test strategies for delivering proprioceptive and tactile information from the prosthesis back to the cortex during sensorimotor tasks. The work spans experimental design, engineering, data analysis and animal experimentation, and aims to inform preclinical research on functional rehabilitation.

Start date 1 April 2027; gross monthly salary €3,131.32–4,291.70 depending on experience.

Requirements

Experience with animal experimentation; strong training in neuroscience (functional imaging, optogenetics, operant conditioning) and/or engineering, since the project involves substantial programming, robotics and optics; a dual profile is ideal; ability to work in a multidisciplinary international team.
