About

Senior Scientist position in Prof. Veronika Somoza's group at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Vienna. The group studies the chemistry and bioactivity of flavour compounds at the molecular level. The role covers CRISPR/Cas9 knockout and knock-in systems, live-cell imaging and biosensor assays to study receptor function, and analysis of second-messenger cascades, receptor trafficking and biased signalling, preferably in chemosensory G-protein-coupled receptor pathways.

Further aims are linking GPCR signalling to physiological and metabolic processes, ideally including in vivo work, and resolving ligand structure–activity relationships with in-silico and bioinformatic support. The postholder also supervises students, helps acquire third-party funding and teaches, mainly in food chemistry. The full-time position is limited to six years with an option to become permanent; basic gross salary EUR 5,014.30, 14 times a year.

Requirements

PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology or a comparable field focused on cellular signalling, preferably GPCR signal transduction; 2D/3D culture of mammalian cells and organoids with recombinant expression systems; CRISPR/Cas9, live-cell imaging and BRET/FRET biosensor assays; in-silico ligand–receptor methods and script-based data analysis; peer-reviewed publications; university teaching (preferably food chemistry) and student supervision; English at C1, German desirable.
