About

A three-year fellowship for recent PhDs from data science, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering and allied quantitative fields to pursue their own research questions with the large-scale, standardized neuroscience datasets produced by the Allen Institute, from the cellular to the whole-brain level. Fellows work alongside neuroscientists at the Allen Institute and the University of Washington with dedicated mentorship, a discretionary research fund and participation in the two-week Summer Workshop on the Dynamic Brain in the San Juan Islands; neuroscience experience is not required.

Fellows are hired as Allen Institute employees with a starting salary of $111,100 a year and immigration support; up to three fellows are selected each year for the Fall 2027 cohort. Selected candidates give virtual talks on 1-2 February 2027, followed by in-person interviews for a subset on 1-2 March 2027.

Requirements

PhD (or equivalent) awarded within the last three years, or completed by the fellowship start, in a quantitative field such as computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or biology, with a strong background in statistical, computational, machine-learning or other data-science methods. International applicants are eligible. Applications are submitted through the Allen Institute Submittable form.
