About
Studio D3 (data-driven discovery) at the Allen Institute brings scientists from mathematical and quantitative backgrounds, both experienced in biology and new to it, to biology's hardest questions with new mathematical, computational and theoretical approaches to living systems. Fellows work in a collaborative, studio-style environment where data, theory and computation converge, alongside Institute scientists and a global network of Affiliates, turning large-scale datasets from cellular structure to the human immune system into new biological insight, with freedom to pursue creative research aligned with the Institute's accelerators.
The three-year programme is for recent PhDs; fellows are hired as Allen Institute employees with a starting salary of $111,100 a year and immigration support, and up to three fellows are selected each year for the Fall 2027 cohort. Selected candidates give virtual talks on 8-9 February 2027, followed by in-person interviews for a subset on 8-9 March 2027.
Requirements
PhD (or equivalent) awarded within the last three years, or completed by the fellowship start, in a quantitative field such as computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or statistics; biology experience is not required. International applicants are eligible. Application materials: two letters of support, a one-page personal statement, a two-page research statement and a one-page mock research proposal on a biological question.
