About

The Precision Health Informatics Lab (PHIL) in the University of Chicago's Section of General Internal Medicine, led by Dr. Joshua Denny, translates large-scale genomic and clinical data into insights about human health, working at the intersection of genomics, electronic health records and population-scale biobanks, with growing use of machine learning, large language models and generative AI. The Staff Scientist provides scientific leadership for gene-disease discovery studies, including GWAS, phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS) and integrative multi-omic approaches; guides the development of computable phenotype definitions from EHR and survey data; interprets findings against resources such as OMIM, the Human Phenotype Ontology and DrugBank; and helps characterise novel genetic diseases and gene effects through clinical investigation of individuals with rare variants.

The role mentors programmers, analysts and trainees and prepares manuscripts and grants. The pay range is $80,000–$100,000.

Requirements

PhD in a related field and 5–7 years of related work experience. Preferred: PhD in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, epidemiology or a related field; research experience in human genetics, genomic epidemiology or clinical informatics; strong statistical genetics (GWAS, PheWAS); EHR-linked biobank data; publication record and strong manuscript and proposal writing. Resume/CV and cover letter required.
