About

The Sustainable Chemistry Research Unit (SusChem) of the University of Oulu's Faculty of Technology, with about 80 staff in Oulu (Linnanmaa) and Kokkola (Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius), seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in inorganic material chemistry. SusChem focuses on inorganic (material) chemistry and the circular economy, including hydrometallurgical leaching and precipitation for the synthesis of lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery chemicals, cathode active materials, sustainable anode development, and recovery and reuse of valuable metals.

The appointee researches the recovery and reuse of valuable metals and the recycling of inorganic material flows, builds an own research group, collaborates across disciplines in Finland and internationally — especially with companies — and supervises and teaches in the chemistry degree programmes, with research at both campuses. The position is fixed-term for five years from 1 March 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter, at level 6 of the Finnish universities' demand chart plus a performance component, with a starting gross salary of about €5,000–5,400 per month.

Applications are due by 30 November 2026 (23:59 Finnish time).

Requirements

Strong background in applied inorganic material chemistry and a doctoral degree in chemistry or (chemical) engineering received by the end of the application period and not more than ten years ago (2016 or later, excluding family leave and military service); national and international industry collaboration and a record of coordinating R&D projects with industry; ability to conduct research and supervise doctoral and master's students.
