A normally two-year postdoctoral appointment beginning in autumn 2027 supports original environmental research with faculty mentorship at Caltech. Fields include climate dynamics and adaptation, atmospheric chemistry, physical oceanography, glaciology, paleoclimate, biogeochemistry and environmental microbiology. The annual stipend is $80,000, with a $10,000 research-expense fund and up to $1,500 for travel to Pasadena. Continuation depends on first-year progress and completion of the doctorate. Establish and lead a What Works Centre that generates, synthesises and mobilises evidence to accelerate UK climate adaptation and resilience. The centre will work with policy and practice partners on adaptation pilots and interventions, combine quantitative and qualitative approaches, and develop evidence for effective action. A single 44-month award must start by 1 August 2027. The maximum funder contribution is GBP 21.1 million, normally at 80% of full economic cost with stated exceptions at 100%, subject to the published annual budget profile and funding approvals. This postdoctoral project studies climate-change effects on migratory birds and wetlands in the U.S. Great Plains. Working with Craig Davis, Scott Loss and collaborators, the researcher will turn existing precipitation, wetland and waterbird analyses into a decision-support tool for wetland management, and analyse bird habitat use, movement and migration timing.
