Explore how microfluidic chips can enhance your imaging experiments by increasing control, throughput, or flexibility. In this remote, personalized workshop, participants will receive expert guidance, support and chips to run tests on their own microscopes.

The sense of agency refers to the subjective feeling of controlling one's own behavior and, through them, external events. Why is this subjective feeling important for humans? Is it just a by-product of our actions? Previous studies have shown that the sense of agency can affect the intensity of sensory input because we predict the input from our motor intention. However, my research has found that the sense of agency plays more roles than just predictions. It enhances perceptual processes of sensory input and potentially helps to harvest more information about the link between the external wo

Cognitive control allows us to think and behave flexibly based on our context and goals. Most theories of cognitive control propose a control representation that enables the same input to produce different outputs contingent on contextual factors. In this talk, I will focus on an important property of the control representation's neural code: its representational dimensionality. Dimensionality of a neural representation balances a basic separability/generalizability trade-off in neural computation. This tradeoff has important implications for cognitive control. In this talk, I will present ini

Deep neural networks (DNNs) with the flexibility to learn good top-layer representations have eclipsed shallow kernel methods without that flexibility. Here, we take inspiration from deep neural networks to develop a new family of deep kernel method. In a deep kernel method, there is a kernel at every layer, and the kernels are jointly optimized to improve performance (with strong regularisation). We establish the representational power of deep kernel methods, by showing that they perform exact inference in an infinitely wide Bayesian neural network or deep Gaussian process. Next, we conje

…Here, we introduce Deep Feedback Control (DFC), a new learning method that uses a feedback controller to drive a deep neural network to match a desired output target and whose con
