Topic: ion transport

Work with Akshay Rao in the Cavendish Laboratory’s Optoelectronics Group on battery materials and molecular systems. Combine optical spectroscopy and microscopy to study charge and ion transport and the chemical and structural changes occurring during operation. Design experiments, analyse datasets and collaborate with academic partners. The 36-month position is available from 4 January 2027 or soon thereafter.

Study lithium-ion transport in oxide solid electrolytes and all-solid-state batteries, connecting atomic and nanoscale diffusion with crystal structure, local structure, ion correlations and ionic conductivity. Methods include solid-state NMR, pulsed-field-gradient and two-dimensional exchange NMR, impedance spectroscopy and tracer diffusion. Research emphasizes garnet-type oxides and correlated or cooperative ion motion. One position in the Solid State Battery Ionics Group at NIMS; start 1 October 2026 or later. Initial term one year, with annual review and a maximum of five years. Published
