Workshop

Mathematics in the age of AI (BGSMath course)

About

BGSMath course at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica covering snippets of the modern interactions between mathematics and artificial intelligence, in three parts of roughly four hours each: (1) foundations of generative modelling — transport, diffusion and inference; (2) a tour of reasoning models — language modelling, reinforcement learning and stylised settings; and (3) Lean formalisation. Eight sessions (two per day, 12 hours in total) on 17, 18, 21 and 22 December 2026, 12:00–13:30 and 15:00–16:30, each day with one session by each lecturer: Joan Bruna (Courant Institute and Center for Data Science, NYU), whose research spans the mathematical foundations of machine learning, signal processing and high-dimensional statistics, and Jaume de Dios Pont (NYU Center for Data Science), who works on harmonic analysis, spectral theory, convex geometry and AI for mathematics.
