Workshop
Doing Mathematics with AI Agents
About
A one-day workshop, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on 10 January 2027, for Chicago-area mathematicians to work with AI agents in a collaborative environment designed by Andrew Sutherland, supported by computational infrastructure and formalization tools. Participants work in a system with multiple agents that are fully set up to do mathematics, doing mathematics with their assistance through the day while talking to colleagues doing the same in real time. It suits faculty, postdocs and graduate students who have not used AI seriously in their work, those who have only used AI chat in a web browser, and those who already use Codex or Claude Code. Because the landscape of AI agents in mathematics is changing quickly, the day is a chance to experiment and learn from others about the possibilities and challenges of current tools. Organised by Antonio Auffinger and Bryna Kra (Northwestern) with Andrew Sutherland (MIT) as organizer and lecturer.
