Join Gamze Gursoy’s group in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to develop privacy-preserving human pangenome references. Research may cover differential privacy for pangenome graphs, privacy-aware graph representations, statistical privacy–utility trade-offs, scalable optimisation and benchmarking on human genomic data. The researcher can shape the scientific direction and collaborate with Po-Ling Loh and the broader Human Pangenome Project community. The initial appointment lasts two years, with a start date by negotiation. Salary is £37,694–£46,049. Applications require a CV, a res

This practical course builds and analyses pangenome graphs from complete genome assemblies to reduce single-reference bias and study genomic variation. Participants use PGGB and ODGI, compare reference-guided and reference-free partitioning, explore haplotype deconvolution with COSIGT, and work with implicit graphs through IMPG. Examples span human, primate and yeast data, with discussion of genotyping and collaborative pangenome projects. A biology and bioinformatics background, Linux shell competence and familiarity with FASTA, VCF and BED formats are required. Teaching runs 16:00–20:00 Berl
