About

Join Gamze Gursoy’s group in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to develop privacy-preserving human pangenome references. Research may cover differential privacy for pangenome graphs, privacy-aware graph representations, statistical privacy–utility trade-offs, scalable optimisation and benchmarking on human genomic data. The researcher can shape the scientific direction and collaborate with Po-Ling Loh and the broader Human Pangenome Project community.

The initial appointment lasts two years, with a start date by negotiation. Salary is £37,694–£46,049. Applications require a CV, a research description of at most two pages and two academic referees; the closing date is 31 October 2026.

Requirements

Completed or nearly completed PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics or a related field. Strong methodological research is central; expertise in every listed area is not required. Funding requires no UK residence during the 24 months before the start date and no current employment by a UK organisation or its overseas campuses.
