A Wheeler-DeWitt guide through cosmological singularities

Federico Piazza · Aix-Marseille University

Can quantum uncertainty resolve cosmological singularities within the Wheeler–DeWitt description itself? Introducing an observer's proper time turns the problem into evolution resembling scattering in a central potential. The talk describes a smooth quantum bounce for a radiation-filled universe, with large scale-factor uncertainty, and explains why anisotropy introduces a critical attractive potential. That harder regime motivates extending the classical BKL account of singularities into quantum theory.

Quantum Geometry of the Light Cone

Wolfgang Wieland · University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

General relativity makes causal structure dynamical, while quantum uncertainty challenges a sharply defined light cone. This talk presents a programme for describing causal geometry quantum mechanically across several approaches to gravity. It constructs physical observables from light-cone geometry, develops their quantum description using earlier loop-gravity results and explores how discrete geometry could modify the spectra of exceptionally luminous gravitational-wave events.
