Introduction to RNA-seq and functional interpretation
Bio-Informatics, Biology and workshop by Alexey Larionov, Lizzie Bridget Divala and Simon Andrews
About
A practical introduction to RNA sequencing and interpretation of gene-expression data for life-science researchers. Topics include sequencing technologies, experimental design, file formats, quality control, mapping, visualisation, functional annotation, long-read analysis and Nextflow pipelines. Participants use ENA, GEO, SRA, Expression Atlas and g:Profiler with small teaching datasets; personal-data analysis is outside the course. Pre-recorded and live teaching, exercises and discussions run through Zoom, Slack and EMBL-EBI virtual machines. Basic R and Linux experience helps but is not essential. Participants should be available throughout the UK working day; the detailed Tuesday programme ends at 18:00. There are 35 competitively selected places. Fees are £250 for academia and £350 for industry. Applications close at 23:59 UK time on 22 November 2026, with decisions expected by 4 December.
