Investigate mechanisms underlying human disease through an experimental intervention or challenge in humans. Stage-one proposals must test a mechanistic hypothesis; new investigators may apply with the required institutional support.
Eligibility
Covers: No fixed funding or duration limit; resources must be justified. Normally 80% FEC and 100% of permitted exceptions.
Lead applicant must be at an eligible UK organisation; the named MRC units in The Gambia and Uganda are the only stated overseas lead exceptions.
Researchers who will direct and actively engage in the project at an eligible organisation. New-investigator applicants must meet the additional independence and support criteria. Named MRC units in The Gambia and Uganda are exceptions to the international-lead exclusion.
