About
A two-year, full-time postdoctoral scholarship in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Umeå University, within the project "Studies on non-canonical DNA structures", supervised by Professor Nasim Sabouri. G-quadruplexes (G4s) and i-motifs are alternative DNA structures that form in guanine- and cytosine-rich regions. The project explores how they interact with proteins and drug-like molecules and links their molecular properties to roles in genome function, health and disease, including possible new avenues for cancer research. The scholar will use fluorescence microscopy and next-generation sequencing to study G4s and i-motifs in cells, biophysical and biochemical methods including NMR, circular dichroism, real-time PCR and primer extension assays, and will examine how cancer drug candidates interact with these structures. Start January 2027 or by agreement.
