About

CPRIT's Recruitment of First-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Members award brings exceptional early-stage cancer researchers to universities and cancer research institutions in Texas for their first tenure-track position. It provides start-up funding of up to $2,000,000 in total costs over five years (indirect costs up to 5%) so that newly independent investigators can build research programs and generate preliminary data for future independent grants; the funds cannot pay the PI's salary or construct or renovate laboratory space, and the recruiting institution must commit additional support equal to at least 50% of the award. Requests of $1,000,000 or less from emerging research institutions are considered separately. CPRIT encourages candidates prepared for patient-oriented research and clinical trials and those who can lead innovative cancer prevention and control or population research addressing the burden of cancer in Texas. Recruited faculty receive the title CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research. Nominations under RFA R-27.1-RFT are received from 23 June 2026 to 21 June 2027 in review cycles; the next cycles close on 20 November 2026, 20 January 2027, 22 February 2027, 22 March 2027, 20 April 2027, 20 May 2027 and 21 June 2027.
