About

The Sigrid Jusélius Foundation's 1–3-year grants support medical research in Finland in two categories: senior researchers at docent level or above, and young group leaders (doctors or graduated docents) who are about to establish a research group in Finland. The grant covers the research costs and the personnel costs of the research group, including salaries and personal grants to group members; the group leader cannot pay their own salary from it. Up to 10% of the grant sum, at most €8,000, can be used for travel or congress costs related to the research. Young group leader grants can be extended by two further years, to five years in total. Grant periods start on 1 May and run until the following April, and decisions are published by the end of March after the Foundation's Annual Meeting. The application period is 1–30 November 2026, closing at 23:59.

Two target groups in medical research. Senior researchers: an accomplished senior-level researcher, docent level as a minimum, for research in Finland. Young group leaders: a doctor or graduated docent about to establish a research group in Finland, who as a general rule has completed the postdoctoral phase; the grant can be renewed for two additional years (five years in total), after which the applicant applies in the senior researcher category. Only one application per call.
