About
The Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab is a competitive appointment for outstanding physicists early in their careers, at roughly assistant-professor level, offering self-directed research in experimental physics on the Fermilab particle physics experiment of the fellow's choice. Fermilab's experimental programme spans collider and cosmic physics, neutrinos, muons, research at the intersection of high energy physics and quantum information science, and R&D and planning for future experiments; this year applications focused on neutrino, muon and collider physics are of particular interest.
Candidates from outside particle physics or with non-traditional career paths are encouraged. The initial term is three years, renewable for two more after a successful review, with potential for appointment without term limit thereafter. The role is onsite in Batavia. Applications, including exactly three reference letters, must be complete on AcademicJobsOnline by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Friday 4 December 2026; questions go to Jonathan Paley.
Requirements
Ph.D. in physics or a relevant subject with at least two years of experience beyond the Ph.D.; demonstrated ability to carry out independent research; experience in experimental particle physics, cosmic physics or related fields; established ability to lead and conduct experimental measurements; excellent communication skills shown by conference presentations and a strong publication record; leadership through intellectual, organizational or technical accomplishments. Application: cover letter, CV, research statement (max. 3 pages), broader impact statement (max. 2 pages) and exactly three reference letters.
