About
Fermilab's Computational Science and AI Directorate seeks a postdoctoral researcher in AI for science to join Dr. Aleksandra Ciprijanovic's group, working at the intersection of deep learning, cosmology and high-energy physics on both methodological AI research and scientific applications. Project focus areas are graph neural networks for cosmology, neutrino and/or collider physics; domain adaptation and model robustness; uncertainty quantification; and model interpretability.
Experience with simulation-based inference with normalizing flows or flow matching, diffusion models, transformers or foundation models is a plus. The term is two years, renewable for a third depending on performance and interest. Complete applications (CV with publications, cover letter, research statement of up to 3 pages and three reference letters) received by 30 December 2026 (11:59 pm CST) receive full consideration.
Requirements
PhD in astrophysics, physics, computer science or a related field; strong background in AI/ML (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow) and collaborative software development; research experience in cosmology/astrophysics, or alternatively neutrino or collider physics or computer science; scientific computing and data analysis experience; publications in leading (astro)physics and/or AI journals or conferences; excellent collaboration and communication skills; interest in mentoring junior scientists.
