Postdoctoral research scholar position
Post Doctoral Research Scholar – Genetic Cardiomyopathies and Atrial Myopathies (Barefield Lab)
Loyola University Chicago
About
Dr. David Barefield, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell & Molecular Physiology at Loyola University Chicago, seeks a Post Doctoral Research Scholar for several recently funded projects. The Barefield Lab studies atrial myopathies, contractile regulation of striated muscle, genetic cardiomyopathies and the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, using mouse models and human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte models of genetic cardiovascular disease to study contractile biophysics, cellular and whole-heart electrophysiology, in vivo physiology, and how gene mutations affect protein function.
The postdoc develops independent projects with training in super-resolution quantitative microscopy and image analysis, mass spectrometry and cardiac electrophysiology, and with mentoring towards their chosen career path. The position is fully in person on the Maywood Health Sciences Campus with a flexible start date; the salary range is $61,008–$74,088 per year.
Requirements
A recently obtained PhD (or one obtained before starting) from a biomedical research background; experience in one or more of molecular cardiology, microscopy, tissue culture, biochemistry, mouse physiology or biophysics; enthusiasm for new research areas and techniques; teamwork and interest in mentoring; independent thinking; strong verbal and written communication.
