About

ELLIS Alicante, the ELLIS unit devoted to human-centric AI for social good, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Human–AI Teaming and Agentic AI, supported primarily by a Horizon Europe project. As AI systems evolve from individual assistants into teams of interacting agents, the position studies how humans can collaborate effectively with them, keep appropriate trust and control, and make informed decisions without being overwhelmed.

The postdoc will develop adaptive methods that tailor communication, explanations, task allocation and autonomy to human needs, and evaluate them through controlled experiments and, where appropriate, longitudinal human-subject studies of cognitive load, trust, fairness, oversight, decision quality and human–AI team performance. The agenda also covers trustworthy and socially aware AI (fairness, transparency, norm-sensitive behaviour) and cooperation in multi-agent environments.

Duties include publishing at leading venues, contributing to an annual Training School on Trustworthy and Socially Aware Agentic AI, project reporting and mentoring PhD students. Starting date January 2027; competitive postdoctoral salary.

Requirements

PhD (completed or expected before the start date) in Computer Science, AI, Human–Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or a related field; expertise in human–AI interaction or collaboration, agentic AI, multi-agent systems, machine learning or empirical evaluation of AI; strong programming skills with modern ML frameworks; experience designing or analysing experiments or user studies; strong publication record. Apply by email with CV (max 3 pages), statement of interest (max 2 pages) and two referees, subject “Postdoctoral position of Agentic AI”.
