About
The Applied Materials Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral appointee to develop advanced dielectric thermal fluids, lubricants, coatings and high-temperature materials through modelling, numerical simulation, experimental testing and scale-up, for applications including high-power transformers, data centres and geothermal energy. A central task is developing advanced dielectric fluids for high-power transformers through formulation, mechanism analysis, multi-physics models and experimental validation; related projects cover data-centre thermal management, corrosion-resistant coatings and thermal energy storage.
The role is on site five days a week. The expected hiring range is $72,879–$121,465.
Requirements
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (typically within the last 0–5 years) in mechanical engineering, civil engineering or a closely related field; experience with thermal, mechanical and electrical analyses, simulations and testing. Preferred: nanoparticle-laden fluids, high-temperature fluid performance testing, materials characterization, and COMSOL Multiphysics or similar thermal/CFD frameworks.
