About

The Institute for Computer-Aided Reasoning in Mathematics (ICARM) is a new U.S. National Science Foundation Mathematical Sciences Research Institute on the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Pittsburgh. Its mission is to support new technologies for mathematical research, including interactive theorem proving and formalisation, automated reasoning and symbolic AI, and machine learning and neural AI. ICARM offers a two-year postdoctoral fellowship beginning August 2027.

Fellows carry out research on applications of AI and formal methods to mathematics and, instead of teaching, help the institute's innovation engineers support mathematicians using these technologies. Applications are considered until the position is filled.

Requirements

PhD in mathematics or a closely related discipline; expertise in machine learning and/or formal methods with applications to mathematics; interest in supporting the institute's mission. Upload a cover letter, research statement, CV and list of references to Interfolio; references are contacted directly if needed.
