About
The Robotics team at Ai2, led by Dieter Fox, uses scalable simulation to study how foundation models scale and generalise for robotics, covering manipulation, humanoid and whole-body control, large-scale simulated training, sim-to-real transfer, robot foundation models and skill learning, with all work open source. This controls-focused engineer owns the real-time control stack on the lab's robots: joint, impedance, operational-space and torque control on arms, multi-fingered hands, bimanual systems and humanoids; QP- or MPC-based whole-body control, state estimation and contact handling; sim-to-real transfer of learned locomotion and loco-manipulation policies; system identification and dynamics models for stable, safe behaviour; and design of end-effectors, sensor mounts and test rigs, plus teleoperation, data-collection and deployment tooling.
The base salary range is $128,880-$193,320.
Requirements
Master's with three or more years of experience, or a PhD, in robotics, control or a related field (strong bachelor's candidates with three years of industry experience are also considered); hands-on implementation and tuning of real-time controllers on physical robots, with grounding in rigid-body dynamics, control theory, stability analysis and system identification; understanding of floating-base dynamics and QP-based whole-body control, operational-space control or MPC; substantial real-robot manipulation experience; end-to-end robot software system design.
