About

Doctoral position in Prof. Narly Golestani's Brain and Language Lab at the University of Vienna (Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology). The lab studies the neurobiological foundations of language and auditory processing, focusing on individual differences, multilingual and multiliterate experience, language aptitude, dyslexia, brain anatomy and experience-dependent plasticity. The project is developed with the candidate and can draw on multimodal adult datasets such as NEBULA101, combining MRI, EEG/MEG, behavioural assessment, computational modelling and automated neuroanatomical phenotyping.

Example questions: how multilingual experience, aptitude and dyslexia relate to brain structure and connectivity, and how systems for written words, speech, music and navigation are organised. The candidate joins the Vienna Doctoral School in Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience. The contract is 30 hours per week for 3 years, extendable to 4, with a basic salary of EUR 3,776.10 on a full-time basis.

Requirements

Master's degree in psychology, biomedical engineering, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, data science, physics or a related discipline; research experience with behavioural and/or neuroscientific data; strong programming (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB) and statistics skills; excellent English. MRI, EEG or MEG experience is desirable; German is not required.
