Abstract
Jerome Lloyd discusses preparation of low-energy and thermal quantum states by engineering system–bath dynamics. Building on a Google experiment, modified dissipative algorithms aim to prepare ground and thermal states accurately on near-term processors and retain some resilience to noise. Numerical demonstrations cover chains, ladders and the two-dimensional Ising model, supported by perturbative arguments for broader applicability.
