Two research positions investigate why individuals differ in their resilience to brain ageing. Emi Ling’s laboratory combines molecular neurobiology, biochemistry and single-cell omics to identify mechanisms associated with lasting cognitive health. Researchers lead projects, publish findings and mentor junior colleagues. Appointments are annual and renewable after evaluation, with role-specific limits of five years for postdoctoral researchers and seven for research scientists. Applicants need a relevant PhD; the postdoctoral category covers those within five years of their doctorate. Recruit

Study molecular markers of vascular cognitive decline and resilience with Anna Marseglia and the Westman group. The project combines proteomics, neuroimaging, cognitive and clinical measures, lifestyle and genetic data from longitudinal cohorts including H70 and UK Biobank. Statistical and machine-learning analyses also address brain-age measures. This two-year full-time appointment is based at Karolinska’s Neo building on the Flemingsberg campus. Apply through the recruitment portal by 29 September 2026.

In this presentation I will show the opportunities and challenges of big data analytics with AI techniques in medical imaging, also in combination with genetic and clinical data. Both conventional machine learning techniques, such as radiomics for tumor characterization, and deep learning techniques for studying brain ageing and prognosis in dementia, will be addressed. Also the concept of deep imaging, a full integration of medical imaging and machine learning, will be discussed. Finally, I will address the challenges of how to successfully integrate these technologies in daily clinical workf
