About
The Rajan Lab at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center studies how cells sense, encode and communicate metabolic and immune stress between organs, using adult Drosophila as a discovery system with validation in mammalian systems. The fellow joins a funded project and builds an independent direction within one of the lab's research areas: Atg8/LC3-GABARAP machinery redeployed beyond autophagy through lipidation, partner docking and membrane remodelling (chromatin biology or extracellular cargo trafficking); brain senescence and adipocyte-glia communication, including glial phagocytosis via Draper/MEGF10, JNK/AP-1-driven senescence, lipid-droplet accumulation and brain ageing; inter-organ mitochondrial signalling; lipoprotein and lipid biology in metabolism and neuroprotection; and how these signals shape Drosophila feeding, learning and memory.
Requirements
PhD in a relevant discipline. Demonstrated strength in one or more of biochemistry and cell biology (Atg8/ubiquitin-like proteins and autophagy, chromatin biology or cargo trafficking), mitochondrial biology, lipoprotein/lipid biology, or Drosophila behaviour (feeding or learning and memory).
