NERC urgency funding: open

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)

Deadline not stated

NERC supports urgent environmental research following an unexpected natural event when critical early data would otherwise be lost. Examples include exceptional floods, earthquakes and other unpredictable environmental changes; planned, seasonal or operational monitoring activities are outside scope. Applications are accepted at any time. Submit an outline within four weeks of the event starting, with evidence of that date; if invited, the full proposal is due within ten working days. Projects may last up to one year and have a full economic cost up to £100,000, normally funded at 80% by NERC.

Pushing the frontiers of environmental research

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)

Deadline not stated

NERC invites ambitious, curiosity-driven environmental research with significant scope to advance knowledge. The opportunity supports novel approaches, interdisciplinary work and partnerships within NERC’s environmental-science remit. It is open with no closing date. Projects can request up to £950,000 full economic cost, normally funded at 80%; exceptional higher-cost proposals require prior NERC approval. Awards typically last three to four years, but the call sets no fixed duration limit. Eligible researchers apply through the lead UK research organisation using the UKRI Funding Service. No

Vulnerability in science and in genomes (with Katie Letterhos)

Big Biology

Oct 30, 2025

Katie Lotterhos discusses a survey of the effects of US policy changes on ecology, evolution, marine and environmental research. The conversation then turns to oysters as a system for studying local adaptation and the genomic vulnerability of populations facing environmental change.
