In Astronomy and Astrophysics

Three-year research positions allowing early-career astrophysicists to develop an independent programme while collaborating with MPA researchers. Areas include stars and stellar systems, supernovae, gravitational waves, galaxy formation, black holes and cosmology. Fellows have access to computing facilities and support for scientific travel. Gross annual salary is stated as approximately EUR 67,500–77,700 depending on experience, with public-service benefits. Apply by 15 November 2026 with a CV, publication list, research statement and three referees; reference letters are due on the same date

Hosted at Yale, the workshop asks where galaxy formation succeeds or fails and how extremely faint stellar systems can reveal that boundary. The first day considers reionization, minimum halo masses and theoretical signatures; the second examines detection limits and present and forthcoming surveys. The final day connects dynamical masses, chemical abundances, binary populations, density profiles and gas content with the distinction between tiny galaxies and star clusters. Invited talks and contributed research link theoretical predictions with observational tests. Abstract submission opened S

Workshop · Astrophysics

Infrared observations expose parts of the Universe that optical surveys miss and test prevailing theories of galaxy formation. This seminar reviews questions about baryon concentrations, galaxy lifetimes, bimodality and downsizing, and the contribution of optically hidden galaxies, in the context of new images from JWST.

Yohan Dubois · IAP

Numerical simulations connect primordial matter fluctuations to the galaxies observed today. This seminar describes the physical processes needed to model galaxy formation and evolution and illustrates how those choices influence the resulting structures and their observable properties.
